Gurney Ray Hayes

Gurney Ray Hayes, 76, of Swansboro, passed away on Sunday, May 27,2018 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, NC. He has returned to his heavenly home.

Gurney was born on May 23, 1942. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and he retired from Lowes Food. Gurney loved his model trains, panning for gold and a good joke.

He is survived by his devoted and loving companion of 18 years, Dorothy Smith, of the home; daughter, Christie Gumble and husband, Kurt, of Jacksonville; son, Mitchell Hayes and wife, Glenda, of Maple Hill; sister, Connie Lewis of Farnham, VA; brother, Van Murphy and wife, Brenda, of Hubert; grandchildren, Brian Clark, Shaun Hayes and wife, Patricia, Jeremy Morales, Brett Hayes, Corey Gumble; great-grandchildren, Logan Siedensticker-Morales, Mallory Strickland-Clark and Mia Strickland-Clark; and numerous extended family who have cared and loved him throughout.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Paul Hayes and Ruby Jones Murphy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Crystal Coast Hospice House at 100 Big Rock Weigh, Newport, NC 28570.
