He was born on August 30, 1942, in Leaksville (Eden), North Carolina. Grover was raised by his loving mother, Evelyn Hawkins Hall, who adored him and his stepfather John D. Jones.
Grover met his wife Kathrine Oglesby while attending East Carolina University. They were married 60 loving and adventurous years. They enjoyed spending time together on cruises, traveling, and with their three daughters, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Grover was the proud owner and operator of the Mattress Outlet in Greensboro, NC which he opened in 1983. He was able to successfully move his business to Morehead City, NC in 1988, where he eventually retired.
He loved life and had a loud, infectious laugh. He loved spending time on his boat, fishing, and golfing. He enjoyed his time with his friends at the Morehead City Country Club and the local Cigar Store. He remained close friends with his high school buddies and they held a "reunion" the last 12 years known as "Beach Boys" over on the beach.
He will be greatly missed as a husband (Matlock), father (Dad), grandfather (Papa), and friend. If you met Grover once you had a friend for life. 2 Corinthians 5:8
