Gregory Paul "Greg" Hughes, 45, of Morehead City, beloved son, brother and friend to all who met him passed away suddenly at home August 15, 2011.
Greg is survived by his parents, Samuel Lee and Mary White Hughes of the home; brother, Samuel Hughes, Jr. and wife Sally of Newport; sister, Carol Thomas and husband Milton of Morehead City.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Thursday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Frese officiating. Attendees are encouraged to dress comfortably as Greg would have wished. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Greg was born January 17, 1966 in Morehead City and graduated West Carteret High School in 1985. He was an accomplished tradesman in many fields; a master electrician, communications installer, carpenter, welder, and much more. He could do almost anything, and he always would for anyone who needed his help. Self-employed and always entrepreneurial, he was operator of Carpet-Mann Commercial and Residential Carpet Cleaning Service of Morehead City at the time of his death. With love and charity for all always in his heart, he often refused payment for those he felt were in need or unable to afford to pay for his services. The family would especially like to thank Greg's long-time employer, business partner and friend, Ronnie Gillikin for their 20-year association.
Greg had many passions and enjoyed outdoor living. He was a member of Morehead City-Beaufort Lodge #1710 of the BPO Elks, where he had many good friends. He followed his dad's lifetime affinity for target shooting and from childhood always enjoyed hunting together with his good friend Phil Munden, Jr. and others. But his passion was sport fishing, and Greg was most at home on the water.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at his parents residence.
