Grace Anthel (Morris) Lovitt

Grace Anthel Morris Lovitt,77, of Beaufort, passed away on June 18, 2017 in Newport, North Carolina. Grace was the daughter of Golden Franklin Morris and Iura Jenkins Morris and was raised in Gaston and Mecklenburg Counties, North Carolina.

Grace is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jerry Lovitt, and her children and grandchildren; Kerry Lovitt (Jill), Jason Lovitt, Kristen Lovitt and Lauren Payne (Theodore). Grace leaves behind her precious great-grandchildren; Alexis, Natalie, Zoe and Lucas. She will be remembered by her siblings; Glenn Morris (Edy) and Goldie Morris, as well as her special nieces Sharon Fisher and Meredith Morris and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved older sister, Shirley Coley.

As a young woman, Grace was recruited by the CIA and went to work in Washington DC. While in Washington, she met and married a young Marine, Jerry Lovitt. They eventually settled in the Charlotte area and raised their family. Grace loved talking with people and had many successful years working at Rutland Plastics Company. She began as an administrative assistant, moved to selling screen printing inks and eventually became one of the principal owners of the company. She cherished the many work friendships she made throughout the years. In recent years, Jerry and Grace retired to the coast, making their home in Beaufort, NC.

Grace experienced life! Grace loved gardening, traveling and her animals. She particularly enjoyed spoiling her English mastiff, Tess and her current dog, a beagle named Trouble.  In her later years, Grace spent time arguing with the politicians and commentators on TV, whom could surely hear her opine. Grace enjoyed cooking for her extended family and entertaining. Her green congeal salad will be fondly remembered but not missed.

A private celebration of her life will be held for the family.
