Grace Piner Boshamer, 87, of Raleigh, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at her daughter’s home, surrounded by family.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Bayview Cemetery in Morehead City, officiated by Dr. Nate Leonard.
Grace was born in Morehead City, NC on July 12, 1930 to Lewis Kirby and Grace Reel Piner. She was raised in her beloved town of Morehead City where she enjoyed spending time on Bogue Sound and Atlantic Beach. Grace went to Charles S. Wallace School where she was recipient of the American Legion Best All Around Medal, selected to attend Girl’s State, and graduated with honors as valedictorian. She was elected the first president of the Carteret County Teenage Club. She attended Woman’s College (UNC-G) where she earned her Certificate in Business. Her certification allowed her to work for such companies as IBM and North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Grace enjoyed writing poetry, playing bridge, traveling, and eating ice cream (any flavor in mass quantities). Most of all, Grace loved her LORD.
She is survived by her son, Lufkin “Sam” Sampson, Jr. of Deep Gap; daughter, Susan Sampson VanDervoort and husband Charles of Winterville; granddaughter, Cynthia Grace Booth and husband Dail; grandson, Seth Austin VanDervoort; grandsons, Clint Barnes, Jr., Jason Barnes, Tyler Barnes and Matthew Barnes; great-granddaughter, Addison Leigh Booth.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Grace Reel Piner; daughter, Sandra Grace Barnes; grandson, Charles Preston VanDervoort; brother, Luther Woodland Piner; and sisters, Rachel Piner Church and Mattie Piner Wheeler Roberts.
