Gordon Keith Stone of Morehead City and Lynchburg Virginia passed away Friday, May 8th, 2015 at Carteret General Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, May 15, 2015 at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Havlicek officiating. Visitation one hour prior to service.
Gordon was born July 25, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, VA, to the late Joseph and Mary Ellen Hatchet Stone.
Upon graduation from high school, he joined The Army in 1946 and was stationed in Japan for 3 years. He served as a military police officer. Upon completing his military service, he graduated from Nashville Technical College. He worked for Ford Motor Company for 30 years. He then went on to teach vocational courses at Amherst County High School in Amherst, VA, and retired in 1993.
He served as Post Commander at American Legion Post 16, Lynchburg, VA, volunteering for more than 28 years through the Legion and in many capacities. At the same time, he volunteered for the Veteran Hospital in Salem, VA.
He loved the beach, surf fishing, and antiquing and was a student of nature. He was a loving husband to his wife, Marion, for 64 years. He was a dear father, grand-father, great grand-father, brother, uncle, friend, and role model. He was selfless and compassionate to all he met. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Marion Stone; two daughters: Brenda Stone Arthur (and husband, Charles) of Hickory, NC; and Melissa Stone Gosnell (and husband, Chris) of Morehead City, NC; a son, Stephen Stone (and wife, Michelle) of Beaufort, NC; daughter-in-law, Anita Stone of Morehead City; five grandchildren: Carrie Hanger (and husband, Chris), Craig Arthur (and wife, Nikeshia), Hailey Gosnell, Jonathan Gosnell, Sarah Stone; and two great-grandchildren: Nate Hanger and Eve Hanger; a sister, Rayzelle Morris of Richmond, VA; two sisters-in-law, Eva Stone of Lynchburg, VA, and Cornelia Hailey of Roanoke, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Stone, son, Gary Stone, two brothers, and three sisters.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Nutz for his special care he gave our father and our family. The family also thanks the staff of Carteret General Hospital.
