Gloria Faye Adams Sabiston

Gloria Faye Adams Sabiston passed away at her home in Marietta Georgia in home-care-hospice on Wednesday May 24, 2023 with her husband and children by her side. Faye was 85 years old and had been in declining health and advancing dementia for many months.

She will be buried at the Core Creek Methodist Church Cemetery in the family plots on June 30th at 2:00 with a grave-side service. Pastor Bryan Lassiter will officiate.

Faye was born in her grandmother's house in Ridgely, Tennessee on January 13, 1938 to Gloria W. and Hugh A. Adams. Her mother later divorced and remarried to Command Sgt. Major James Rowe of the Marine Corps. As a result growing up she was located at several military facilities including the west coast finally settling in Jacksonville, N.C. at Camp Lejeune.

Faye is survived by her husband, Larry Sabiston. They were married for 66 years, dated in high school and married in college while he attended N.C. State's School of Architecture. He often said, "Faye kept our family moving forward with a 'flexible structure' using a lot of common sense and TLC." In high school she was a straight "A" student and would have been valedictorian if she had not had to move to another high school at the end of her junior year. Faye's working careers centered on credit accounting including Sears Credit, two banks and several independent women's clothing stores as accounts and credit manager.

She moved to Marietta Georgia with her family in 1972 when her husband transferred from his office in Winston-Salem to Atlanta. In Marietta, her daughter Leah was a ballet student at the Cobb-Marietta Ballet Studio where Faye later became office manager for the school. When her son Paul opened his law office in Marietta she became his bookkeeper and office manager. Later Paul ran for Marietta City Council where she was active in his campaign and ultimate victory for two four year terms. When Noel qualified for Navy Technical School she told him, "If you don't study and do well the Navy will have you chipping rust off of really big ships for four years." He did well. In the mid 1990's Faye moved to Germany with her husband where he managed a German Architectural / Engineering Firm acquired by his firm. During her three year stay in Germany she spoke to numerous middle and high school classes of students who were taking English speaking courses. She often said, "Somewhere there are Germans speaking American English with a southern accent." In addition, she was able to travel throughout Germany and many European countries.

After her family, her passion was women's bowling. Many of Faye's best friends were her bowling partners. She bowled in singles, doubles, team and mixed doubles at local, state and national levels. She accumulated many dozen of trophies. Faye and her husband had individual hobby collections, but both took pride in their shared collection of some 50 Japanese woodblock prints dating from the middle 1800's purchased during their life together.

She was devoted to her three children, Leah Sabiston Redner, David Noel Sabiston, and Eric Paul Sabiston. She said, "They are three different people and I will respect that difference, but they will be responsible individuals and have respect of others." Faye had a late brother, Kenneth Adams; half-brother, Stephen E. Rowe of Woodstock, Georgia; a half-sister, Cheryl Lynn Sievert, Cottonwood, AZ; and another half-brother, Michel Adams in California. She has seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Leah and Ron Redner / Ryan and Regan; Noel and Stacy Sabiston / Chloe, Wesley, and Hudson; Paul and Kelli Sabiston / Natalie and Eric; and the two great-grandchildren Logan and Zoe (children of Chloe).

Faye had a life well lived and will be fondly remembered by those who knew her.
