Gloria was born on April 15, 1947, in Morehead City, NC, to the late Amasa and Myrtle Murdoch. Growing up in the Wildwood community, Gloria was a longtime devoted member of Wildwood Presbyterian Church. She was well known throughout Newport for her 29 years of service with the Newport Post Office, where she made lasting connections within the community.
In her leisure time, Gloria had a variety of interests. She enjoyed bowling, family gatherings, and spending time with her family. Living on the coast, Gloria always loved fishing and clamming, often retelling the memorable story of catching so many fish that it left “a hole in the water”, as told by her husband.
Christmas held a special place in her heart and was her favorite holiday as she always loved family gatherings and festive celebrations. She appreciated the simple pleasures in life, a good meal and taking Sunday afternoon rides. Visits to her son's home in Swansboro were always a highlight that she looked forward to.
Above all, Gloria treasured her roles as a devoted wife of 59 years, a nurturing mother, and a proud grandmother. Her grandchildren brought her immense joy, and they were truly the light of her life.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Leslie E. Riggs Sr.; son, Leslie E. Riggs Jr. (Bethany Danielle Turner) of Swansboro, NC; grandchildren, Graham Riggs and Caroline Riggs; her furry friend, her dog, “Little Man”; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her siblings, Bertha Mason Barnes, Jean Murdoch Smith, Manley Mason, William "Buster" Murdoch and Clyde Murdoch.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome.
