Glen Eugene Barnes, 82, of Havelock, passed away Friday, October 14, 2016 at his home.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the First Baptist Church, on Hollywood Blvd, in Havelock. NC with Don Hadley officiating. Inurment will be 1:00 PM at the Forest Oaks Cemetery, Havelock with Military Honors.

Glen honorably serviced his country for 25 years in the United States Marine Corp, entering as a Private, and retiring as a Captain.  He later worked and then retired, after 15 years, from the Naval Depot (NADEP) aboard the Marine Corp Air Station at Cherry Point.  Glen loved the outdoors and could be found taking frequent walks in his neighborhood.  He was a hunter, fisherman, and was a patron of the NC Wildlife Commission. He also loved golf, and was a member of the Sound of Freedom Golf Course.  He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, a simple man, and a hero to his family.

Glen is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shizue “Sue” Barnes; daughters, Janice Coble and husband H.J. of TX and Sheila Barnes of NC; brothers, Herman Barnes and wife Kay of MO and Jessie “J.R.” Barnes of MO; sisters, Bobbie Garza of LA and Bettie Loyd and husband Robert “Bob” of MO; grandchildren, Joe Coble Jr. and wife Tina of MD, Elizabeth Eakles and husband Johnny of TX, Kent Coble of UT, Eugene Coble of FL, and Craig Coble of ID; and great grandchildren, Kristian, Lorali, Johnny Brokk, Lily and Piper; uncle Kenneth Barnes; aunt, Wilma Barnes; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Earvin Barnes and Ola Catherine (Santhuff) Barnes Dement, and stepfather Sherman Dement.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, at www.alz.org, disease through the advancement of research; provide and enhance care and support of all affected, and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
