Gerald Gordon Mason

May 20, 1941 — January 27, 2014

Gerald Gordon Mason, 72, of Beaufort went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 27, 2014.

His services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Manley B. Rose, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens.

After being in the Coast Guard for several years, he turned to the sea for his livelihood. He worked with NOAA and crossed the Atlantic Ocean several times.

When he started working on Tug-Boats he found that he enjoyed this very much. He spent 40 years working with companies like Maritrans and  The Vane Brothers. As a 1st Mate and based on his credentials the Coast Guard determined that he was qualified as a “Designated Examiner” for
assessment of competence of candidates for towing vessel licenses.

He is survived by his wife - Carolyn of 46 years, son - Gordon Mason and his wife Jennie, daughter - April and her husband Mark Thurmond. Grandchildren; Jaymee, Jon, Jade and Jaclyn Mason; brothers
Jimmy, Gene and Michael Mason of Beaufort; sisters Mildred Beacham, Ruth Knudsen, Doris Small and husband William, Linda Davis and husband Jerry; half-sister Catherine and Shirley Mason, Dolly Gray,
Joyce Gaskill and Paula Mason; and half-brother Gordy, Phillip, and Perry Mason.

His faithful dog and companion “Frosty” was at his side at all times.

He was preceded in death by his parents Primrose and Lena Mason; brothers Elton Mason, Ralph Mason; sister Hazel Bunker.

Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday at Munden Funeral Home.
