Georgene (Van Dervort) Lewis

Georgene Opal Lewis, 88, of Newport, NC and formerly of Tomah, passed away on Friday, February 01, 2013, at Croatan Ridge Care Center, Newport, NC. Georgene was born on March 31, 1924 in Sparta, WI to the late L.C. Van Dervort and Ardel Phelps Van Dervort. They lived in Cataract, WI and moved to Tomah where she spent most of her life. She married Lenwood E. Lewis, May 1944. He was from North Carolina and stationed at Camp McCoy. They had two sons, Jeffrey Allan (1947) and Rodney Van (1948). She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed arts and crafts, family and friends and traveling.
She is survived by a son Jeffrey, his wife Marge, their daughters, Jennifer and Michelle, and grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Berg Lewis, her daughters Kimberly, Leslie, Andrea, Sally Jo, and grandchildren.
Georgene is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lenwood (2003), son Rodney (2002) and parents.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2013, 11:00 A.M at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St. Tomah, WI. Pastor William Swan will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, February 6, from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., and on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Tomah, WI 54660. The Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home and the Munden Funeral Home are assisting the family with the arrangements. Online condolences can be sent to www.sonnenburgfamilyfh.com
