On Saturday, October 2, 2021, George Edward Pace, Sr. of Rockville, MD passed away at the age of 91. He was predeceased by his wife, Dora G. Pace. They were happily married for 62 wonderful years. George was the loving father of two children, George E. (Mary Lou) Pace, Jr., and Susan Pace (Mark) Moran, and grandfather of four grandchildren, Ashley Pace (George), and Brian, Amanda, and Gabrielle Moran (Susan). George was affectionally known to all as “Poppy “.
George was born in Cawood, Kentucky on September 20, 1930, the oldest of 3 siblings. Growing up in a poor family, he made a successful life for himself and his family. He enlisted in the Army at the age of seventeen. A career veteran, he proudly served our country for 20 years from 1948-1968. George served in Korea for which he was awarded the Bronze Star. He also served in Vietnam and retired from the Army as Chief Warrant Officer. After his retirement from the military, George was a Section Manager for the Department of Permitting Services for Montgomery County in Rockville, Maryland, until his retirement in 1991.
George was definitely one-of-a-kind. There is no doubt that God broke the mold when he made him. He had many talents and enjoyed many interests. He loved to golf, exercise, read, pray, and write poetry. He had a heart of gold and a passion for people. George touched the lives of everyone who knew him, and he cared deeply for his friends and family. More than anything, he cherished the time that he spent with his family.
The world has lost a great man, and we have lost the greatest father and grandfather in the world. George was an amazing man to everyone. We all loved and adored him so much, and we know how much he loved all of us. His presence will be greatly missed.
Poppy, we are comforted knowing that you are reunited with our mom and grandmother, Dora (Mommom), the love of your life. We know that you are both resting with our Lord in Heaven, His place of refreshment, and that God is holding you both in the palm of His hand. We will always carry your memories in our hearts. May the Holy Family protect you always. As Christians we believe that we will one day see you again in paradise! Until then, Rest In Peace and please watch over us.
