George Hayes, 85, of Morehead City, died Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Carteret General Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday at Parkview Baptist Church with Rev. David Mills and Rev. Patrick Williams officiating. The graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
George is a member and served as a deacon at Parkview Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps 23 years. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. His love for Christ grew after serving seven years at Look Up Lodge Christian Retreat Center in South Carolina. George had many jobs locally before gaining employment at Williams Hardware which he was employed until his health caused him to retire.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elva Hales Hayes of the home; two daughters, Kathy Eagle and husband Frank and Marti Bohlmeyer and husband Dan all of Morehead City; three grandchildren, Danielle Earp and husband Bill, Ashley Pullen and husband Billy, and Katie Huntley and husband Josh; and six greatgrandchildren, Levi, Natalie, Landon, Kendall, Noah, and Gianna.
The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm Wednesday at Munden Funeral Home.
