George Fiste

George Fiste, 78, of Newport, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016 surrounded by family at his home.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Munden Funeral Home Chapel in Morehead City with Rev. Jack Mumford officiating. Interment to follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
George joined the Navy in 1955. He honorably served his country including multiple tours of duty in Vietnam and retired after twenty years. He later worked in civil service for fifteen years at the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. He belonged to the VFW post #7315 and also the Moose Lodge of Newport.
He enjoyed fishing and loved to go with his dog, Max. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be remembered for his practical jokes and sense of humor.
George is survived by his wife, Wilma Moore Fiste; children, James Fiste and wife Patrice, Danyel Huls and husband Matthew, Barry Fiste and wife Barbara, Vicky Johnson and Ricky Johnson; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; siblings, Ray Fiste and wife Joyce and Jean Melvin and husband Harold.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Dorothy Jinks Fiste; and three sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carteret Health Care for Hospice Fund, PO Box 1619, Morehead City, NC 28557.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Munden Funeral Home.
