George Charles Broadstreet III

George Charles Broadstreet III, 97, of Morehead City, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 16, 2021, at his home.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Chaplain Rick Brooks.  Prior to the service, the family will receive friends and guests from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. For those unable to attend, the family invites you to view the webcasting of the service through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website.  In keeping with the CDC guidelines pertaining to the Coronavirus, those who are ill or at-risk (elderly, immune-compromised) are encouraged to stay home.  Additionally, there will be a limit to the number of people in the building at one time, as well, those who attend will be asked to bring and wear a protective mask.  Help us honor the family while practicing safe measures.  Friends are also encouraged to leave words of comfort to the family through the website.

George was born on September 6, 1923, in New Bern, North Carolina, to the late George Charles Broadstreet Jr. and Rose Lee Broadstreet.  He attended Fort Union Military Academy and honorably served in the United States Army and was a World War II veteran.

George continued to work faithfully for the government as an engineer in civil service at Cherry Point and retired after 30 years of service.  During this time, George and his late wife, Jane, owned and operated Mariner Lanes Bowling Alley, the first bowling alley in Morehead City from 1963 to 1979.  In his free time, George enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, and doing his projects around the house.

George is survived by his sons, George Broadstreet IV, of Newport, Richard Broadstreet of Newport, and Glen Broadstreet and wife Danielle of Summerfield, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 61 years, Jane M. Broadstreet.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions in memory of George, may be made to the Crystal Coast Hospice House at P.O. Box 640, Newport, NC 28570.
