Gary Keith Stone, 55, of Morehead City, died Tuesday, July 31st at Carteret General Hospital after battling Cancer. Gary was born on April 24, 1957 to Gordon and Marion Stone in Lynchburg, Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Anita Rodgers Stone, of Morehead City; his parent’s Gordon and Marion Stone of Lynchburg, VA and Morehead City; his siblings Mrs. Brenda Stone Arthur (Charlie) of Hickory, NC; Mr. Stephen Stone (Michelle) of Beaufort, NC; Mrs. Melissa Stone Gosnell (Chris) of Morehead City and 5 nieces, 3 nephews and 1 great nephew.

He is a graduate of EC Glass High School and attended Central Virginia Community College, both in Lynchburg, VA. As a young adult, Gary participated in cross country, baseball, softball and DeMolay where he served as Master Counselor. He also coached youth baseball and served as an umpire.  He and Anita moved to Coastal NC in 1996, where he enjoyed surf fishing and being outdoors.

His career began with Nationwide Insurance as a Claims Adjuster after college.  From there he continued to use his insurance knowledge and combined it with his love of automobiles to become a body shop manager at several large body shops in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was trained by the insurance industry, but polished by the body shop trade which led him to fulfilling his dream of opening Stone’s Collision Center in Morehead City in 2009.  This is a state-of-the-art body shop and paint facility, and a major life accomplishment.  Gary adored his wife, cherished his family and enjoyed being able to help others.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Raab Clinic for all the care and support they offered Gary throughout his treatments.   In appreciation of this, the family would welcome donations to the Raab Cancer Clinic in memory of Gary.
