Gary Calvin McIver, 78, of Newport, died Thursday November 29, 2012, at Carteret General Hospital.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday December 8, 2012 at Munden Funeral Home Chapel.
Gary was born October 15, 1934 in Mecklenburg County to Malcolm and Myrtle McIver. He Graduated from Harry P. Harding High School in 1952, then served in the US Army June 1955-1957 as Spec. 3rd Class. He worked at Town and Country Ford in Charlotte, NC for 17 years as a mechanic, shop foreman, and service manager, then he retired from Bell South October 31, 1991 as a automotive supervisor.
He is survived by a son Gary Dean McIver of Fort Mills, SC: three brothers Jack McIver of Marshville, NC, C.W. McIver of Charlotte, NC, and David McIver of Newport, NC : two sisters Linda Kay McIver of Charlotte, NC, and Susan Abernathy of Lithonia, GA.
Preceded in death by his parents Malcolm and Myrtle McIver, and wife Bettie Jean Mabe McIver.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made Soundview Original Free Will Baptist Church Building fund at 1655 Hwy 24 Newport, NC 28570.
