Garrison "Tom-Tom" Augustine Lewis

Garrison “Tom-Tom” Augustine Lewis, 81, of Otway, passed away Friday, August 24, 2018, at Snug Harbor on Nelson Bay.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at 2 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Harkers Island. Interment will follow at Vergie Mae Cemetery.

Tom-Tom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as a high priest and secretary in the Quorum Presidency. He earned his nickname from his sister, Eva Martin, while growing up on Red Hill on Harkers Island. He was the only son of Iona and “Mart” Lewis, born October 10, 1936. He set out on his own at the age of 17 and traveled the world on a NOAA vessel, retiring as a 2nd Assistant Engineer. He often spoke of the treacherous marine conditions he experienced while working with NOAA. He married his late wife, Deloris, in 1993 and continued his career with the N.C. Ferry Division. He enjoyed working on old cars, restoring two classic Camaros and a Chevy pickup.

He is survived by son, Charlie Lewis and wife Myrna of Rome, GA; daughter, Debbie Hilliard; son, Vincent Baker and wife Angie of Havelock; son, Ryan Lawrence and fiancée Britney of Stacy; sister, Connie Gillikin of Otway; grandchildren, Caroline Lewis, Brittany Baker, Victoria Baker, Garrison Lawrence and Sydney Lawrence; cousin and best friend Steve Gaskill; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris Lewis; parents Iona and Martin Lewis; sisters, Lucy Mae Revels and Eva Martin Lewis; nephew, Andrew Revels; and nieces, Sue Revels,  Kim Gillikin.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Harkers Island.
