Fredrick Wayne Gaskill, 65, of Cedar Island passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Vidant Hospice House surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Cedar Island United Methodist Church with Rev. Darcy Knight officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Island Community Cemetery with Military Honors.

Freddy was a 1967 graduate of West Carteret High School. He honorably served in the U.S. Navy until returning to his home on Cedar Island to be near his beloved Grandmother, Dorothy. Freddy was a talented brick mason and he once owned Bayside Bar and Grill. He devoted most of his years to commercial fishing. When restrictions on Commercial Fishing made it too difficult to continue, he worked with Norfolk Dredging as a Tankerman and Crewboat Captain, and retired from the Union Local #25. Freddy thoroughly enjoyed turning pages on any book within reach and spending time with his dog, Taco.

He is survived by his two daughters, Shannon Gaskill Harris and husband Kerry of Atlantic, Faith Ann Gaskill Piner and husband Randy of Williston; significant other Dollie Gray of the home; three sisters, Kay Damren and husband Doug of Robersonville, Ginny Jones and husband Tommy of Marshallberg and Ann O’Connor of Morehead City; four grandsons, Devan, Chandler, Daylen, and Darren; and Dollie’s children, Corey, Penny and Michael; and numerous other special friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Beaman and Dorothy Gwendolyn Styron Gaskill; and one brother, Harold Gaskill.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Cedar Island Cemetery Fund, PO Box 660 Cedar Island, NC 28520.

The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Church.
