Frank Kenneth Kyle died February 10, 2012, at the age of 92. He was born in Carthage, Missouri, the only son of Frank and Iva Kyle. He attended a country school and after graduating from Carthage High School, graduated from Rolla School of Mines with a degree in civil engineering. Next he served in World War II in New Guinea, where he helped to supervise the building of an air base.
Upon returning from the war, Mr. Kyle went to law school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City under the GI Bill. After graduation, he went to work as a city manager intern under L. P. Cookingham, a pioneer in the field of city management. After this, he helped to rebuild the infrastructure of cities in Chadron, Nebraska; Ashland, Kentucky; Independence, Missouri; and Goldsboro, North Carolina. He also worked under Nelson Rockefeller Jr. as a municipal management specialist for the state of New York.
After retiring from city management, Mr. Kyle went to Saudi Arabia as a contract engineer for Bechtel Corporation in building the International Airport in Riyadh. Upon his return, he worked into his 80s as a financial advisor for John Hancock.
Mr. Kyle loved to read history. While city manager of Independence, he became acquainted with President Harry Truman, who had recently retired and was living in Independence. When bored, Mr. Truman would call Mr. Kyle and ask him to come over to the Truman Library for a little history conversation.
Ken is survived by his sister Charlyn Colaw, who resides on the family farm, and her two daughters, Karen and Barbara, and his niece, Sylvia. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Freda Soulis Kyle, of the home. He is also survived by four children: Vicki Zasadny and husband Dick of Kansas City; Ted Kyle and wife Sara of Pittsburgh, PA; Kathy Kyle-Cornn and husband Michael of Hendersonville; and John Kyle of San Francisco.
