Francis Wayne Murphy, 79, of Davis, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday January 22, 2013 surrounded by family.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 Saturday at First Baptist Church of Davis with Rev. Ed Renfrow officiating. Interment will follow at Murphy Cemetery.
He was born on September 28, 1933 in Washington, DC to Arnold and Thelma Murphy. He attended Anacostia High School in Washington, DC, and served in the Air Police Squadron of the US Air Force from 1952-1956. He served as a Deputy Sheriff of Prince George's County, Maryland, transferring to the Department of Corrections and retiring in 1990. After retirement he moved to Davis, NC and became very active in numerous local organizations, including serving as Post Commander of the American Legion #295. He also served as a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Davis for 20 years. He loved big family gatherings, especially when it came time to "feast". He was a jack of all trades, a history buff, and loved to reminisce about "old times", he will truly be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years Lucille E. Murphy of the home: daughter Brenda L. Murphy of Davis: sons Robert V. Murphy and wife Kathy of Lusby, MD, Timothy S. Murphy and fiancee Holly of Brookeville, MD, and Jeffrey W. Murphy and wife Julie of Chesapeake Beach, MD: a sister Sue M. Buck of Davis, NC: eight grandchildren Charles M. Willis III, Michael W. Murphy and wife Laura, Brandi M. Hogan and husband Lee, Ryan P. Murphy, Chelsey N. Murphy, Shawn R. Murphy, Nicole M. Murphy, Brianna P. Murphy: three great grandchildren Madison Taylor, Robert E. Murphy, and Alyssa L. Hogan: and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 Friday at the Church.
