Frances Whaley Lilly, 84, of Mill Creek, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at home.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Reece’s Chapel in Mill Creek located at 171 Old Winberry Road, Newport, with Rev. James “Winky” Chadwick, Rev. Landis Lancaster, and Chaplin Danny Paul Crosby officiating. Interment to follow at the Lilly Family Cemetery.
Frances was a Charter member of Reece’s Chapel. She loved the water and spent a lot of time with her husband shrimping and oystering on the “Love Boat”. She worked at Bally Refrigerated Boxes where she was appreciated by her fellow employees. Frances was involved with the Mill Creek Fire and Rescue and affectionally given the nickname there of “Big Mama”. She was helpful to others, especially senior citizens. She loved all children and attended kids sports games, whether it be her family or others, she was there to support and cheer them on. Frances was loved by all and will truly be missed.
Frances is survived by her daughters, Jean Ann Golden and husband David, Darla Crosby and Emma Jo Richey all of Mill Creek; sisters, Mary Dowdy and husband Gus of Mill Creek, Brenda Harvey and husband Jack of Killeen, TX; and brother, Hugh Whaley Jr. and wife Mary of Salty Shores; grandchildren, Marlo Golden Smith and husband Tony of Mill Creek, Scotty Golden and wife Mary Ann of Mill Creek, Danny Crosby and wife Jeanna of Fort Drum, NY, Christie Lilly Quick of Havelock, Eugene Allen Lilly of Mill Creek, Michael Lilly and wife Susan Bass Lilly of Mill Creek, Susan Lilly of Newport, and Allen Baltezore and wife Emma of Wilmington; great grandchildren, Jonathan Smith, Makayla Smith, Brandon Golden, Gabriel Golden, Chloe Crosby, Jedidiah Crosby, Nathanael Crosby, Jordon Lilly, Haley O’Neil, Shelby Harvey, Claudia Quick, Elizabeth Quick, Jordan Amburn, Samuel Lilly, Carson Lilly, Cyrus Lilly IV, John Patrick Sloan, and Willow Baltezore; great great granddaughter, Kendra O’Neil; and her fur baby, Seymore.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Eugene T. Lilly; and son, Cyrus T. “Peck” Lilly; Brothers, Earlie Whaley, Richard Whaley, and Johnny Whaley; sister, Florine Hardesty; and parents, Hugh and Nettie Whaley.
The family will welcome friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Friday, January 20, 2017 at Reece’s Chapel and other times at the home of David and Jean Ann Golden located at 2284 Mill Creek Road, Newport, NC 28570.
