Evelyn Marie (Miller) Davis

Evelyn Miller Davis, 88, of Davis, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Mercer officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Evelyn was born to Jesse Emery Miller and Elizabeth Irene Poole Miller in Clearfield, PA on November 24, 1927.

Evelyn graduated from Steelton High School on June 6, 1946, and continued her education in business school for one year. She had a love of reading, sledding, drawing and dancing.

Evelyn worked at Murphy’s Five and Dime as a sales clerk during and shortly after high school. She was promoted to the accounting department and began her career of over sixty years as a bookkeeper, finishing her career of 24 years at Kurtis Chevrolet.

Evelyn met the love of her life Weldon, while he was serving in the Army. They were married on October 1, 1948. They were married for 49 years until his death in 1997. They were blessed with five healthy children: Bertha “Birdie”, Melissa, Weldon “Tumpy”, Barbara “Sissy” and the baby to all, Jess.

Evelyn was a long standing member of the Davis Free Will Baptist Church, a firm believer in Christ and lived her convictions daily.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Bertha Davis Denemy, Weldon “Tumpy” Davis and wife Sherri, Barbara Davis Lammi and husband Curtis, and Jess Emory Davis; also eight grandchildren, Larry Denemy, Joshua Davis, Neal Morris, Jeremy Davis, Ashley Lewis, Jennifer Horn, Joy Smith, and Jackie Horn; four great-grandchildren, Grace, Gabriel, Jacob, and Jason.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Emery Miller, mother, Elizabeth Irene Prayor, stepfather, Richard Prayor, husband, Weldon Grayer Davis, and daughter Melissa Horn.

Evelyn loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with all her heart and they will carry that love for her the rest of their lives. Wonderful memories of “Mom”, “Grandmama”, will sustain them.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
