Eugenia "Genia" Trulove Lanier

September 24, 1937 — January 6, 2025

Atlantic Beach

Eugenia "Genia" Trulove Lanier, 87, of Atlantic Beach, NC, formerly of Greenville, NC, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, January 6, 2025.

Genia was born on September 24, 1937, in Wilmington, NC, to the late George Simeon Trulove and Evelyn Bryant Trulove. After graduating from East Carolina University, she shared her passion for learning with numerous students during her time as a teacher in Ayden, NC. As her family grew, she embraced her role as a homemaker, nurturing and supporting her loved ones with grace and warmth.

Genia found joy in life's simple pleasures, whether it was savoring a glass of Bourbon or cheering on her beloved UNC Tarheels. Of course, being an ECU Pirate fan at heart, it created good natured rivalry in the household during football season. Known for her vibrant spirit, she loved to dance and enjoyed the rhythmic joy of shag dancing.

Genia was a loving wife for 65 years, and she is now reunited with her forever sweetheart, Jim. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her children, Laura Sanders (Thorpe) of Elizabeth City, NC, Jay Lanier (Karah) of Virginia Beach, VA, Rebecca Lanier (Eddie Whitman) of Newport, NC, and Jeanette Hays (Johnson) of Boyds, MD; and grandchildren, Anna Kitchin, Catherine Kitchin, Hailey Lanier, James Lanier, Julia Lanier Foster, Emily Taggart, and Allen Taggart.

In addition to her parents, Genia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James "Jim" Conrad Lanier Jr. and her infant great-grandson, Noah Foster.

The family would like to especially thank Gentiva Hospice of Swansboro including Nurse Connie and Nurse Connie K., along with her wonderful caregiver Nicki Lattin.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in Genia's memory to an animal shelter of your choice.

Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences at www.mundenfuneralhome.net.

Arrangements by Munden Funeral Home & Crematory in Morehead City, NC.
