Capt. Ret. Eugene A. Bowen, 81 of Newport, NC and formerly of Charleston, WV passed from this life Friday, January 20, 2012 at the Hospice House of Greenville, NC after an extended illness.
He was born August 13, 1930 at Thosas, VA, the son of the late Charlie T. and Ruth Rigney Bowen. Gene was a retired Aviation Logistics Supply Officer from the United States Marine Corp with 28 years service of which he spent two tours of duty in Viet Nam. He was a member of the Newport Masonic Lodge #706 AF and AM, a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Sudan Shrine Temple, also he was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Newport Lodge #2194. He loved his God, the Marine Corp, his country, and was a devoted husband and father.
He was predeceased by a son, Randy E. Bowen, his parents, Charlie and Ruth Bowen, two sisters, Billie Slappe and Jenny Stevens.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Nellie Goad Bowen, son, Bobby Ray of Newport, NC, brothers, Delbert B. (Shirley) Bowen of Waxhaw, NC and Thomas W. (Jan) Bowen of Rockwell, NC, grandaughter, Mellissa (Lt. Commander U.S. Navy, Leslie) Riggs of Chesapeake, VA, great grandchildren, Caroline McKinna and Graham Edward Riggs of Chesapeake, VA.
The service will be at 12 noon on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at the Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, NC with Pastor Jim Daub of St. Paul Luthern Church of Havelock officiating. Entombent with Military Rites will follow at the Gethsemane Memorial Park Mausoleum in Morehead City, NC. The family will recieve friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
