Ernest David Allen Jr. passed away July 9, 2017 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
He was born in Star, N.C. on January 18,1929, to the late Dave and Hattie Allen. He was a graduate of High Point College, served in the Army during the Korean War, and retired as the manager of the Employment Security Commission Office in Morehead City.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters Frances Jordan, Mary Lee Murphy, Jane Robbins, and Dorothy Rose Elliott.
He is survived by his wife Iva, son Ernest David Allen III of Morehead City, daughter Patsy Holland and husband Tom of Raleigh, stepdaughter Brenda Wilson and husband Mike of Havelock, grandchildren Sarah Holland, Mary Holland, Wayne Wilson, and Randy Wilson, and brother Elms Allen of Winston Salem.
David loved sports. He attended college on an athletic scholarship and played both basketball and baseball. After graduation, he was a stand out player for Acme McCrary in the Industrial League. He was also active in American Legion and Little League Baseball. He ran the clock at West Carteret HS Football games for 25 years. He was a walking sports statistics encyclopedia and especially loved Duke basketball.
The family thanks Dr. David Oliver, Dr. Angela Park, and Dr. Kristina Gintautiene for their outstanding care, and to the nurses at the hospice house.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Cherry Point Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Epperson officiating. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Gethsemane Memorial Park in Morehead City.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cherry Point Baptist Church Building Fund, 212 Church Rd., Havelock, N.C. 28532.
