Ernest William Thompson Sr., affectionately known as "Pookie," departed his earthly home on September 13, 2024. Born on August 11, 1960, in Philadelphia, PA, Ernest was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed.
A funeral service to honor Ernest’s life will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, September 27th at Munden Funeral Home. Interment, with military honors, will follow at 12 p.m., at the Coastal Carolina Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville. The family will receive friends the evening prior from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday, September 26th at Munden Funeral Home with Masonic Rites beginning at 6 p.m. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.
A proud graduate of Murrell Dobbins High School AVT, Ernest served his country with honor in the Marine Corps, where he was discharged in 1982 after a distinguished career in electronics. He went on to work for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Greyhound Bus Services, Visionworks and New Jersey Transit until his retirement.
Ernest “Bro Boaz” was a Master Mason at King Solomon’s Temple, having been raised in MWPHGL of PA IONNIC #112 in 1993, and continued his Masonic journey traveling eastbound to MWPHGL of NC HERO #248. His dedication to the craft and his community was unwavering.
He was also an active member of the Beloved St. John Evangelistic Church in Philadelphia, PA, where he was under the pastoral care of Reverend Clement M. Lupton.
Ernest’s legacy of love, service, and dedication will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 20 years, Ruth Elizabeth Thompson; his sons, Ernest William Thompson Jr., Donnell Geer (Monique), and Alphonzo Geer (Delarise); and his daughters, Alysshia Carolyn Mazyck (Walter Sr.) and Elizabeth Geer. He was a cherished grandfather to Da'meryius, Journee, Walter Jr., Semaj, Nalayah, Daliyah, Samir, and Hamaad.
He leaves behind his brother, James Mashore, Jr.; his brothers-in-law, Shane and Joe; and his sisters-in-law, Barbara, Lulu, Cathy, Bertha, and Tammy. He will also be remembered fondly by his best friend, Coop, as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Ernest was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Thompson; father, James Mashore; and sisters, Clara Ellington and Carolyn White.
