Ernest James Buck Sr., 77, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Carteret Health Care.
A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 12 p.m., Monday, May 13th at Gethsemane Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., Monday, May 13th at Munden Funeral Home.
Ernest was born on August 15, 1946, in Farmville, North Carolina, to the late Gardner Nolan Buck and Lucille Rouse Buck. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and held a deep love for his country.
From a young age, Ernest had a passion for cars. That interest sparked a lifelong career in the automotive industry, eventually becoming the proud owner and operator of his own shop, Ernie’s Bodyshop. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix and he always did so with precision and care.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his son, Ernest James Buck Jr. Fort Worth, TX; daughters, Meredith Lynn Fitzgerald and husband Roger of Newport, NC, and Lisa Baysden of Newport, NC; brothers, Gardner Buck of Newport, NC, William Buck and wife Debbie of Leland, NC and David Buck of Newport, NC; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Nicole Buck, Ashley Rivera, Emily Fitzgerald, Drayson Walker, Shawn Driver, and Shane Baysden; and 4 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Mae Hansley Buck who passed away in 2015; and his siblings, Marie Garner, Lucille Crank, Rebecca Stoots, and Glenn Buck.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
