Elva Hales Hayes, 84, of Morehead City, passed away Monday, November 19, 2018, at Cherry Point Bay Nursing Home.
Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2018, at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Rob Pate. Interment will be at 12 p.m. on Monday, November 26, 2018, at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Elva was born on January 31, 1934, in Hillsborough, Orange County, North Carolina. She graduated from Durham High School in 1952. In 1974, she moved to Morehead City and worked for her brother in various restaurants in the county and she was also employed by Social Services for a short time. Her favorite job was dressing the men of Morehead City at Belk where she was employed from 1984 to 2009. She was a longtime member of Parkview Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and served on various committees. Besides her husband George, the loves of her life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her 2 daughters, Kathy Eagle and husband, Frank, of Morehead City and Marti Bohlmeyer and husband, Dan, of Greensboro; 3 grandchildren, Danielle Earp, Ashley Pullen and husband Billy, and Katie Huntley and husband Josh; 9 great-grandchildren, Natalie, Levi, Landon, Kendall, Noah, Tyler, Gianna, Mila and Molly; sister-in-law, Bernice Hales; nieces, Christi Wood and husband Justin, and Carla Hales; and 3 great-nieces, Skylar, Sydney and Saylor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George M. Hayes; mother, Pauline Porter Hales Evans; father, Charles McDonald Hales; and brother, William E. Hales.
Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2018, at Munden Funeral Home.
