Elton Lee Mason

October 26, 1927 — October 31, 2011

Elton Lee Mason, 84, of Beaufort, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday October 31, 2011. He died at Harborview Health Care surrounded by his loving family .

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday ,at North River United Methodist Church with Rev. Rose Bottari officiating. Interment will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens.

He was a member of North River United Methodist Church in Beaufort. He provided for his family as a brick mason, and later became employed at Cherry Point , where he retired from masonry.
In Elton's younger days he also enjoyed spending time in the water, boat building, and working with his hands.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Mary: three children, daughter Susan Illingworth and husband Art of SC, son Gregory Mason and wife Teresa of Newport, and son Lee Mason of Beaufort: grandchildren Michelle Hall, Shaun Mason, William Illingworth, Elayna Eyquem, Keith McVicker, and Mary Alexis Goodwin: five great grandchildren: brothers, Gerald, Jimmy, and Gene of Beaufort, Michael of Pinehurst NC: sisters Ruth Knudsen, Mildred Beacham, Doris Small and husband William, and Linda Davis and husband Jerry: half sisters Cathrine and Shirley Mason, Dolly Gray, Joyce Gaskill and Paula Mason: half brothers Gordy Mason, Phillip Mason and Perry Mason.

Elton was preceded in death by his parents Primrose and Lena Mason, brother Ralph Mason, sister Hazel Bunker and daughter Kimberly Mason.

A visitation will be held 6:00-8:00pm Wednesday, at Munden Funeral Home.

Mary and family would like to thank the caregivers who attended to him at  Harborview Health Care Center. It meant a great deal to the family, with a special thanks to Ashley Elps and Gail Johnson.
