Elston Leonard Brookins, 69, of Havelock, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Carolina East Medical Center.
Elson was born on August 18, 1951, in Oakland, Michigan, to the late John and Gertrude Brookins. He honorably served over 3 years in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era, his primary role being a diesel mechanic. During his service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Ribbon, and a Bronze Star for his meritorious service in a combat zone. In the years following his military service, he was a faithful American Legion member where he joined with fellow service men to enhance the well-being of America's veterans and their families, our military, and our communities.
After the military, he worked faithfully in manufacturing until his retirement. As a jack of all trades, Elston was able to fix anything set before him. Being the outdoors type, he always enjoyed spending time in the woods hunting or on the water fishing. Being on the road on a Harley Davidson bike was certainly a happy place for him. He was also known to play a great game of pool.
More than anything, Elston’s family was his true love, including his loving wife, Linda; children, Laurence Micheal Brookins, Billy Joe Brookins, Kimberly Theresa Copeland, Christian John Wolanski, and Timothy George Wolanski; grandchildren, Kion Laurence Brookins, Devin Joseph Brookins, Connor Bruce Brookins, Madison Nicole Wolanski, Aubrie Grace Wolanski, Rylan Allen Copeland, Ashlynn Marie Copeland, and Paige Eileen Wolanski.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Clements American Legion Post 4, 401 N Groesbeck Hwy, Mt Clemens, MI 48043.
