Eloise Lewis Daniels, 91, formerly of Marshallberg, passed away on August 12, 2011, in Fredericksburg, VA. She was born Myra Eloise Lewis in Bath, NC on November 15, 1919 to James Tenny and Myrtle Lewis. She graduated valedictorian from Belle Haven High School and attended the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. She was retired from the federal government having served her country for 30 years at the Naval Base Supply Center in Norfolk, VA. Following retirement, she volunteered and later worked for the American Cancer Society in Norfolk. In 1990 she moved to Blacksburg, VA and was active in the Montgomery County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, AARP and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was a member of Blacksburg United Methodist Church and the Murril Bible Class.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Daisy Davis, Olive Davis, Helen Coleman and Juanita Landen; and brother, Glen Lewis. Left to cherish her memory are one son, James Lewis Daniels, and daughter –in-law, Carolyn Daniels of Fredericksburg; daughter, Terry Daniels Smusz, and son-in-law, Ted Smusz of Blacksburg, VA; granddaughter, Emily Smusz of Lake City, MI; grandson, Ian Smusz of Washington, DC; and step-grandson, Steven Lowry of Fredericksburg; nieces , Judy Long, Peggy Kitrell, Jackie Coleman; and nephews Bill Coleman, Gary Landen and Jeff Landen; and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Other “family” close to Eloise include Tina Smusz, Mark, Jacob and Emma Hileman, Ted and Peggy Smusz, Sharon and Leo Sebolt and Terry Krauss.
The family wishes to extend special appreciation to Carriage Hill Health Center and Mary Washington Hospice; Skyline Nursing and Carilion Hospice; special friend and caregiver Gwen Purcell; Linda Hypes and staff; and Reverend Reggie Tuck, Mary Ann Cass and the Murril Bible Class of Blacksburg United Methodist Church. Very special thanks to daughter-in-law, Carolyn Daniels, who provided gentle and loving care in her home.
Friends and family will gather at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, NC on Thursday, August 18, 10:00 AM to noon. A service is planned for 2:00 PM at Victoria Cemetery in Marshallberg, NC.
