Elmer J. Lewis

Elmer J. Lewis, 97, of Morehead City, passed away Sunday, January 6­, 2019, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

There will be a graveside service for Elmer at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019, at Gethsemane Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Tom Willoughby.

Elmer was a devoted Mason at the Ocean Masonic Lodge 405. He proudly served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion. From 1970 till present, he was the owner of Elmer J. Lewis and Sons, Inc.  He was known for the brick homes they built throughout Carteret County.

He is survived by his sons, Mike Lewis and wife Teresa of Morehead City and Gary Lewis of Newport; sisters, Gloria Lewis and June Lewis both of Florida; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily Lewis; parents, James and Emma Lewis; sister, Betty Jane Lewis; brothers, James Lewis and Douglas Lewis; half-sisters, Cleo Lewis, Mildred Lewis and Lillian Brooks; and half-brothers, Homer Lewis, Otis Lewis, Leon Lewis and Robert Brooks.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Munden Funeral Home.
