Elmenia Pennuell

Elmenia Pennuell, 92, of Morehead City, North Carolina, a beloved mother and respected businesswoman, entered eternal rest peacefully on Friday, October 13, 2023, at the Crystal Bluffs Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

 A funeral service to honor Elmenia’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, October 19th at Munden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Elmenia will be laid to rest privately at Bayview Cemetery in Morehead City. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through her obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. Born on November 20, 1930, in Newport, North Carolina, Elmenia was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Bessie Fulcher. They instilled within her the values of hard work, kindness, and compassion.

Elmenia married her late husband, George, and together they embarked on life’s journey. With determination and a keen business sense, they were the successful owners and operators of Carteret Wholesale Business and Hall’s Dry Cleaners. Their commitment to providing exceptional service made them trusted figures in the Morehead City community. Among her many accomplishments, she was a devoted, lifelong member of First Christian Church in Morehead City. Elmenia retired at the age of 75 after she and Buddy both decided to “hang it up” at Halls Dry Cleaners.

With a kindness that knew no bounds, Elmenia was known for her soft-spoken nature, gentle demeanor, and selflessness. She was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a listening ear. Her compassion touched the lives of many, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her son, George “Buddy” Albert Pennuell and wife Charlene of Newport; grandchildren, Ashley Pennuell Roy and husband Alex of Charleston, SC, George Albert Pennuell III "Trey" of Morehead City; grandson-in-law, Terry Clark of Otway; great-grandchildren, Savannah Clark Bailey and husband Hunter of Morehead City and Shelby Vaughn Clark of Beaufort; great-grandchild, Max Roy of Charleston, SC; sister-in-law, Rachel Fitzpatrick; nieces, Belva Manning, Shelby Wells, Cindy Fitzpatrick; special friends, June Aliyetti, Mrs. Louise Clements (her roommate at Crystal Bluffs); and her many fur babies she truly adored.

In addition to her parents, Elmenia was preceded in death by her beloved husband George Albert Pennuell Sr.; infant son, George Edwin Pennuell; daughter, Brenda Pennuell Gobble; brothers, Walter Bland, Durwood Fulcher, Fleming Fulcher; and granddaughter, Michelle “Paige” Clark.

The family would like to thank the staff, nurses, and CNA’s at Crystal Bluffs for the wonderful, fun, and personal care she was given during her time there since January of this year.
