Ellen Herrick Caricofe

Ellen Herrick Caricofe, 97, of Morehead City, NC, loving mother, wife, and sister, peacefully passed away on the 27th of January 2022, at Carteret Landing Assisted Living.

She was born on September 9, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Lynn and Mary Herrick. She graduated cum laude with a BS in Education from Cleveland State University in 1971 while teaching full time and raising a family. An elementary and middle school educator she touched the lives of many students. She recognized the abilities in her students and nourished that for many of her students far beyond their years in her classroom. Ellen’s life was the epitome of kindness, love, laughter, respect, and compassion. She was married to Benjamin E. Caricofe of Washington DC for 25 years before his death in 1976 and partnered with Fred Schnurr for over 30 years before his death in 2017, both veterans of WWII.

Ellen is survived by her son, Ralph and partner Dara Caricofe of Beaufort, NC; daughter, Lynn Rezabek and husband Dave of Houston, TX; granddaughter, Kendra Culberson and husband Travis and great grandsons, Grant and Blake of Clayton, NC; grandson, Benjamin Caricofe of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter, Kathryn Plouvier and great grandson and daughter Julian and Emily.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages support to the American Cancer Society or any organization of need that speaks to your heart, as Ellen did throughout her life.
