Morehead City

Elizabeth Anne Vainwright Huneycutt, 80, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Carolina East Medical Center.

Anne's funeral service details will be shared once finalized.

Anne was born on March 1, 1943, in Greenville, North Carolina, to the late Dalton and Dolly Vainwright. She attended Junius Rose High School in Greenville and was proud that she received the music award at her graduation ceremony. Anne continued her education at East Carolina University where she earned her bachelor's degree in education in just 3 years.

Anne faithfully worked 20 years in the Carteret County School System and 10 years at the Carteret Community College where she also taught English as a Second Language. Anne’s commitment to educating others led her to open a tutoring service, Academics in Excellence. Her tutoring service helped numerous students pass their grades and their end-of-year testing.

Anne was a member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, volunteered in the church office, and was on the decorating committee. She dearly loved her church and her church family.

After retirement, Anne enjoyed yoga, Tai Chi, and exercising at the gym.

A highlight of her life was when her cousin, who was a millionaire, took her and her father to Las Vegas. Anne said she had such a great time that it was hard to come back to reality when she returned home.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her 3 children, Jennifer Hunter of Morehead City, NC, Michael Doe and wife Bobbi of Fayetteville, NC, and Todd Pollard and wife Melissa of Aliso Viejo, CA; 7 grandchildren, Emma Hunter, Brittany Doe, Jessica Doe, Tyler Doe, Megan Doe, Rachel Pollard, and Jake Pollard; 2 great-grandchildren; companion, Mitchell Riley of Morehead City; and her of course her furry friend, her dog, Lola.

In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Huneycutt.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Carteret County Humane Society, P.O. Box 357, Newport, NC 28570.   https://cchsshelter.com/
