Alease Weatherly Shanor, 95, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Morehead City.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 23, 2017, at First Baptist Church, Morehead City with Rev. Darrell Williams officiating.

Mrs. Shanor was born on September 23, 1921 in Durham, NC to the late William Burke Weatherly and Myrtle Neville Weatherly. She received her education in the Durham city schools and Croft Business College. Prior to her marriage, she was a secretary at Duke Hospital.

Alease was married to Donald Lloyd Shanor for 67 years. His death was in 2009.

As a member of First Baptist Church for many decades, she taught Sunday School and served on various committees including the Benevolence and the Homebound committees.

She will be remembered for her cheerful, fun-loving nature and zest for life.

Alease is survived by her daughter; Elizabeth (Betsy) Deeter and husband James of Morehead City; grandson, David Aleshire and wife Christina of Henderson, NV; niece, Susan F. Gordon and husband James of Winston-Salem.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother; W.B.Weatherly Jr.and sister; Mary Lou W. Fogleman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church Homebound Ministry, 810 Bridges Street, Morehead City, NC 28557.

A visitation will be held in the Family Life Center following the service.
