Elizabeth Shannon

Elizabeth Margaret Owens Shannon, age 96, of Newport, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2015 at her home with her loving family by her side.

The family will receive friends 4:00 – 6:00 pm Friday, December 4, 2015 at Temple Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 6:00 pm with Pastor Terry Johnson officiating. A second viewing and service will be held at Newcomer Cannon Funeral Home on New Carner Rd, Albany, NY. The visitation will be 11:00 – 1:00 pm, Tuesday, December 8, 2015, with the service at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. The burial will follow at St. Johns Cemetery in Albany, NY.

Elizabeth was born in Albany, NY on August 14, 1919 to the late William and Margaret Owens. She retired after 35 years of employment with the A&P Tea Company and resided in Newport, NC. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Morehead City, NC.

Elizabeth is survived by her son, Robert Shannon and wife Nancy of Albany, NY, and James Shannon and wife Sharon of Newport, NC. She was also the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyn Christy; brother, Robert Owens; sister, Shirley Stover; and sister, Marion Decker.
