Eleanor Gerie Ritter

Eleanor Gerie Ritter, 64, of Newport, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019 at her home.

She graduated from Norfolk School of Nursing and then joined the U.S. Navy as a Commissioned Officer. She  worked as a Cardiac Nurse for Norfolk General Hospital and then Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern. Her nursing career led her to many positions and ultimately to meet the love of her life, Jim as a patient. She permanently moved to Carteret County and called Newport her home until her passing. She taught Nursing Aid and Medical Terminology at Carteret Community College and Croatan High School, respectively. She was a kind and expert nurse that gave more than she took. She was a devoted wife, sister, and aunt that will be missed.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years,  Jim Ritter of the home; sister, Bernice Wooten and husband Dale of Newport; brothers, Andy Hujdich of Nashville, TN, BJ Hujdich of Norfolk, VA and Walt Wheeler of Newport; close nephews, Andrew Woodard and Jonathan Wooten; and many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Maryann Hujdich.
