Eleanor (Morse) Bisbee

January 8, 1940 — February 5, 2014

Eleanor M. Bisbee, 74, of Smyrna died February 5 at Carteret General Hospital combating cancer.

Eleanor will be sorely missed by her husband Frederick, her daughter Sarah, her sons David, Daniel, and Steven, her grandchildren Olivia, Lilian, Cameron, Chase, and McVey, her brother Richard D. Morse and the many other friends and relatives her life has touched so meaningfully. Sadie and Maggie will also miss walking by her side and watching the tides flow in and out of Middens Creek.

Prior to an active retirement as proprietor of The Nature Corner gift shop in Smyrna and as a founding member and key supporter of the Down East Library, Eleanor had a forty year career as a Registered Nurse serving the communities of the Susquehanna Valley in Pennsylvania in both care giving and administrative roles. Eleanor and Fred raised their children on Hideaway Farm near Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, where she passed along the values of hard work and responsibility she acquired during her own childhood on a farm in the Catskill Mountains of New York.

Her favorite adventures included travels to Australia, Costa Rica, and Scotland, and kayaking along the Crystal Coast. Her knitting expertise is on display in the wardrobes of family members small, medium, and large, and she will be remembered as an inspiration to all those who took her water aerobics class.

Eleanor was born January 8, 1940 to Olive and A. Buell Morse in Jewett, New York and was valedictorian of her high school class. She lived in New York City for a time and graduated from the Cornell University School of Nursing before meeting and fulfilling the dreams of a young man searching for a caring and loving woman with whom he could start and raise a family. For half a century, they shared countless blessings.

We wish to express our deepest appreciation for the boundless love and unwavering support Eleanor received from all of her beloved family, friends, and neighbors. As she lived a life dedicated to the care and help of others, she drew great strength from those who cared, and helped, and loved her.
