Edwin G. Johnson of Emerald Isle lost his battle with ALS on Monday June 23rd, he was 72.
The family and church will conduct a Memorial Service Monday July 1st, 11:00 am at Swansboro United Methodist Church.
A native of New York, Ed finished high-school at Brooklyn Tech before graduating from Pratt Institute with a degree in electrical engineering. Ed worked his entire career at IBM over 33 years, both in White Plains, NY and eventually in Raleigh NC, where he raised two sons with his beloved wife of 49 years, Gail. He went on to eventually earn a Masters Degree from Duke during the height of his career. Throughout his life, Ed was a voracious reader and led an extremely active lifestyle. He rarely missed the NY Times, his morning run or weekend bike rides. After retiring at 54, he lived full time in Emerald Isle and began teaching in Jacksonville for Campbell University. After several years teaching and working with the Coastal Federation, he purchased and ran Bikes-R-In off Highway 24.
Ed is survived by his wife Gail of Land's End, Emerald Isle; his son Christian and wife Marina of Keane, NH; his son Tim and wife Hadley of San Francisco, CA; his sister Elsa Tarantal of Philadelphia; and his grandchildren Cyrus, Ellis and Lucy.
