Edward Lee Johnson, born on December 13, 1926, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 8, 2018, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House, after a long battle with dementia.
His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at First Baptist of Morehead City, officiated by Dr. Nate Leonard.
Edward was born and raised in Farmville, NC and graduated from Farmville High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. After being discharged from the Navy, Edward resided in Raleigh, NC. This is where he met his wife Dot. Together they worked and raised their family in Raleigh until his retirement from Prudential Insurance Company after 25 years of service.
After retirement, Edward and Dot relocated to Oriental, NC, where they lived for 20 years. Edward and Dot then relocated to Morehead City where they resided until his passing.
While living in Raleigh, Edward enjoyed being active in his children’s activities such as music concerts, band events and sporting events. Edward was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC. Edward will be remembered as a die-hard fisherman and an NC State fan. He most enjoyed fishing with his numerous friends that he met throughout his life. One of the highlights while living in Oriental was cooking lunch with the boys down at the “Rails”. Edward’s other interests included, listening to music, working in the yard, building the Hall Hilton, fishing with Bruh, fishing Ned’s hole, David’s last-minute fishing trips and family gatherings. Edward was an avid card player who loved playing and giving lessons in Liverpool Rummy. Got to love that funny card!
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris “Dot” Meeks Johnson, of the home; daughter, Melissa Johnson Robinson and husband, Robbie Robinson, of Morehead City, NC; sons, Edward Mitchell Johnson of Signal Mountain, TN, Mark Tyler Johnson and wife, Denise Gillie Johnson of Fuquay-Varina, NC; sister, Dorothy “Dot” Johnson Walston of Greenville, NC; grandchildren, Lindsay Elizabeth Franklin, Edward Colin Johnson and wife, Kirby Hager Johnson, Tyler Early Johnson, Jacob Logan Johnson, Edward Parker Robinson; great-grandchildren, Edward Blevin Johnson, Salem Davis Johnson; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at First Baptist of Morehead City.
