Edward "Hervie" Gillikin
September 26, 1949 — April 28, 2011
Edward "Hervie" Gillikin, 61, of Gloucester, NC died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at his residence after a brief battle with brain cancer.
Services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Anthony Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Armecia Lewis Cemetery on Harkers Island.
Hervie's love of Down East never took him far except for the six years he served in the US Coast Guard. During those years the smell of North River's marsh mud always comforted him because he knew he was getting close to home. His house was always filled with things he created and he gave his children many reminders of his craftmanship and love with woodworking.
In addition to his wife of 30 years, Terri, Hervie is survived by his son, Edward Gillikin and wife, Melanie of Chesapeake, VA; daughters, Tonya L. Gillikin of Beaufort, NC and Kiarra B. Gillikin of the home; brother, Herman C. Gillikin; grandchildren, Mariah N. Godette, Marty Gillikin, and Chandler Gillikin; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Gillikin and Sarah Belma Russell of Harkers Island.
The family would like to especially thank the ladies of Hospice, Donna, Theresa, Joanne, Kathy, and Suzanne, who greatly assisted the family in caring for Hervie at home where he loved to be.
The family will receive friends 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
