Edna Mason Gaskill, 98, of Stacy, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Snug Harbor on Nelson Bay.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Stacy United Methodist Church, officiated by Reverend Paul Harris. Interment will follow at the Stacy Community Cemetery.
Edna was born on August 24, 1919 to Albert and Ola D. Mason on the Loop Road in Stacy. She was the last charter member of her beloved church, Stacy United Methodist, where her dedication and love for the Lord and the Word of God were evident to all who knew her. She was a wonderful Down East cook who enjoyed feeding family and friends in her community. In her spare time, she loved to read, and she had a special talent for crocheting. She also served on many church committees and was a great historian who will be greatly missed in our county. Edna’s pride and joy were her family whom she loved dearly.
She is survived by her daughters, Annette G. Small of Harlowe and Beaufort, Sue G. Harris and her husband, Reverend Paul Harris, of Atlantic; daughter-in-law, Ida P. Gaskill of Morehead City; granddaughters, Renee G. Gouillion, Sharon S. Meeks and husband, Bradley, Linda Harris, Cathy V. Guthrie and husband, Steven, Christy V. Lewis and husband, Jon; grandsons, Timothy G. Venters and wife, LaDonna, Jimmy S. Gaskill and wife, Dawn, Edfred M. Gaskill Jr., and Marvin Small, Jr. and wife, Tami; great-grandchildren, BJ, Ami, Derick, Sarah, Steve, Zachary, Robin, Emily, Matthew, Jennifer, Collin, Taylor, Sarah Beth, Anna, Joshua, Abby, Andrew, Joey, Jane, Caitlynn, Cooper, Violet; great-great-grandchildren, Vincent, Connor, Alice, Lyric; and a special friend, Jane G. Venters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred H. Gaskill; son, Edfred M. Gaskill; granddaughter, Gena S. Gaskill; parents, Albert and Ola D. Mason; her in-laws, Fernie and Mary Etta Gaskill; sister and brother-in-law, Velma M. and Curtus Leavis; nephew, Curtis W. Lewis.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2018 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.
The family sends special thanks to her friend and loving caregiver, Becky Wells, who did so much for her and the family. We also want to give a special thank you to Dr. Crosswell and the staff at Snug Harbor on Nelson Bay. Thank you all for your tender loving care.
