Edna Garner Pincus, 92, of Morehead City, formerly of Newport, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Carteret Health Care.

Her funeral service will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Munden Funeral Home, Morehead City, officiated by Reverend Mitchell Parker. Interment will follow at Amariah Garner Cemetery in Newport.

Edna was a faithful member at Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed her Bud and Shrub Garden Club. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary club at the church. Edna volunteered her time at a nursing home in Newport where she was awarded a CCA volunteer award presented by the city officials in 2010. In recognition of her many hours of service she was also presented a special award by the mayor of Newport. Edna’s love of sports included basketball. When she attended Newport High School she was the Captain and was voted the Most Valuable Player of the women’s basketball team.

She is survived by her daughter, Fran and son-in-law, Peter K. Kaplan of Newport; grandchildren, Peter Jordan Kaplan and wife, Emily, Kristofer Ray Kaplan, all from New York; great-grandchildren, Sarah Dorothea Kaplan and Vincent Arthur Kaplan, all from New York; sister-in-law, Dee Dee Garner of Minnesota; nephews, Gordon of Florida, and Joe of Minnesota; niece, Leslie of Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Pincus and brother, Raymond Leslie Garner, Jr.

Flowers are welcome, or donations may be made to the Brookdale Senior Living – Holiday Fund at 107 Bryan St., Morehead City, NC 28557.

Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2017 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.
