Edith Foy Johns, 87, of Beaufort, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Carteret Health Care.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Maysville United Methodist Church with Rev. Neal Salter officiating. Interment will follow at Dogwood Memorial Cemetery in Maysville.
She grew up in Maysville, NC and was the oldest of seven children. While Edith lived in locales such as Page, AZ, Biloxi, MS, Fort Walden Beach, FL, and Washington DC, she spent the majority of her life in North Carolina, with the last thirty years in Beaufort. She was a retired nurse and previously worked in the Operating Room at Duke. At the time of her retirement, she was working at Harborview Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Morehead City. Edith was an avid sports fan and especially loved all things Duke. She appreciated all the landscapes this country has to offer including the expansiveness of the West, the rich farmlands of NC, and the trout-filled saltwater of Carteret County. Edith will be remembered for her love of family. If you gave her long enough, she would likely figure out how she was related to you.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Leigh Johns of Havelock; son, James D. Johns, Jr. (Anne) of Raleigh and Morehead City; brother, Joseph Foy, Jr. (Olean) of Sunbury; three sisters, Hilda Foy Barbee and Corinne Foy both of New Bern, and Geri Adams (Carlton) of Clayton; also three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph James and Eunice Eubanks Foy, brother, Billy Foy and a sister, Elaine Foy Harrington.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Duke Children’s Hospital, Office of Development, 710 W Main Street, Durham, NC 27701 or www.dukekids@duke.edu
