Edith F. Gartner, 94, of Morehead City, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021, at her home.
The family will celebrate her life privately. Edith will be laid to rest at Calverton Military Cemetery in Long Island, New York.
Edith was born on April 25, 1926, in the Bronx, New York, to the late George and Edith Geiger. Edith lived life to the fullest and cherished all of life’s opportunities. As a homemaker, she valued being a mother and nurturing her family. Whether she was sewing or applying her green thumb to her plants, she always made her home a special place. She expanded her knowledge through extensive reading which was an activity she enjoyed in life’s quiet moments. Her outlet for fun was playing Bingo and going to the Senior Center which were highlights for her day. Some of her happiest memories were of spending time in Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania with family and friends.
Edith’s late husband, Robert, served in the military and it was that patriotism that drew her to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary where she was proud to be a member.
More than anything, Edith cherished her family and was pleased to see the generations continue in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she loved dearly.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Mueller of Massapequa, NY and Linda Schriever and husband Garry of Morehead City; daughter-in-law, Shirley Gartner of Floral Park, NY; grandchildren, Alex Nestasia, Robert Nestasia, Linda Mae Nestasia, and Robert Gartner; and great-grandchildren, Ashley Kind, Sean Kind, Matthew Nestasia, Brandon Nestasia, Stephanie Nestasia, Tessa Nestasia, Sophia Nestasia, Brian Nestasia, and Emily Nestasia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Gartner; son, Kenneth Gartner; and son-in-law, Kurt Mueller.
