Edgar Simpson, Jr., 87, of Morehead City, passed away Monday, March 5, 2018 at Pruitt Health Care in Sea Level.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, March 9, 2018 at Munden Funeral Home Chapel in Morehead City.
Edgar was born in New Bern, NC in 1931 to Edgar Simpson Sr. and Nettie Merrick Simpson. He grew up in St. Augustine, FL and Morehead City, NC. During his school years he attended Camp Glenn and Morehead City High School, then Florida State University before joining the United States Air Force.
Edgar had many stories about his adventures here on the Southern Outer Banks with Kemp Lockhart and other buddies, especially Geraldine Oaksmith and her treasures from Edward Teach “Blackbeard”.
Edgar proudly served in the United States Air Force for 22 years. During this time, his wife and children traveled extensively throughout the world. He retired at age 55 to Morehead City NC. Along with serving our country, he was also proud to be a Mason.
He is survived by his daughter, Pam Simpson King of Morehead City; son, Eddie Simpson, III and wife Polly of Newport; great aunt, Mary Elizabeth Oakley of Durham; cousin, Carolyn Bridges and husband Donald of Rocky Mount; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian “Claudette” James Simpson; parents, Edgar Simpson, Sr. and Nettie Merrick Simpson; and a brother, Rueben Simpson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St, Oxford, NC 27565.
