Earl Leon Turnage, 51, of Newport, went to be with his Lord while at home on Tuesday, June 14, 2016.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 pm Friday, June 17, 2016 at Harvest Church of God with Rev. David Wheeler and Bishop Aaron Waters officiating.
A man deeply loved and respected. Leon served as an officer, sergeant, and in Programs at the Newport Correctional Facility for 20 years. He had a love for God and family that was so very evident in everything that he did. His caring personality allowed him to talk to almost anyone and would always share the love of God with them if the opportunity was given. He had a passion for worship unlike any other. He was involved in music ministry for over 30 years, leading people to the heart of God as a worship minister in various churches. He had most recently served as the music minister at Harvest Church in Newport until his health prevented him from doing so. But that never stopped his worship! An amazing husband, father, and friend; Leon leaves an astounding legacy and handprints on the hearts of all those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Charlotte Turnage of Newport; parents, Earl Ray and Genevieve Turnage of Benson; mother and father in law, Charlie and Dorothy Meeks of Newport; children, Aliceson Turnage, Rachel Turnage Amburn and husband Jordan, and Charles Turnage all of Newport; brothers, Jamie Turnage of Benson and brother in law, Lee Meeks and wife Erin of Newport; sister, Jennifer Dail of Benson; and nieces and nephews, Rowan Turnage, Ocean Turnage, Seren Turnage and Alexandria Dail all of Benson, and Griffin Meeks and Ella Grey both of Newport.
The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm Friday, June 17, 2016 at Harvest Church of God in Newport.
Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Music Ministry at Harvest Church of God, 801 Mann Street, Newport, NC 28570.
