Earl Linton Reese

Atlantic Beach

Earl Linton Reese, 83, of Atlantic Beach and formerly of Sumter, SC, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Carteret Health Care.

His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 1st, at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. John Carswell. The family will receive friends following the service.

Earl was born in Augusta, Georgia on July 9, 1938, the youngest of 5 children to the late Earl and Ema Reese. Working faithfully for the U.S. Postal Service, he retired as Postmaster in Sumter, South Carolina.  In 2017, he moved to Carteret County, NC where he was a member of Parkview Baptist Church. Earl enjoyed fishing and rooting for his home team, the Georgia Bulldogs. He especially enjoyed golf, so much so that he attended 54 of the Masters Tournament’s in Augusta.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Franks Reese of the home; daughter, Lauren Wilson and husband Earle of Sumter, SC; stepchildren, Howard Franks and wife Frankie of Goldsboro, NC, Laurie Ann Mann of Emerald Isle, and Jamie Franks of Black Mountain, NC; sister, Janet LaFavor of Augusta, GA; grandchildren, Aaron Wilson and wife Lori Greenville, SC, and Ron McCoy and wife Meagan of Manhattan, KS; step grandchildren, Hunter Franks of Boone, NC, Mason Franks of Morehead City, NC, Martha Ann Korschun of New Hampshire, Caroline Mann of Morehead City, NC, Bella Boccardy, Sophie Boccardy and Adeline Boccardy all of Black Mountain, NC; and great grandchildren, Kai and Ivy Wilson of Greenville and Charlotte and Claire McCoy of Manhattan, KS.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Joan Reese; and his sisters, Polly Laumbach, Mary Lou Walton, and Earllene Smith.
